PART 1. (WHY IS MY SKIN SO OILY?)
Do you constantly find yourself dabbing excess oil off your face throughout the day? Do you get constant breakouts from no where? Do you sometimes use an obscene amount of primer and still end up looking shiny in less than 5 minutes after applying makeup?
Well then, if you answered Yes! Yes! Yes! Then you most definitely have oily skin. The biggest disadvantage with oily skin is clogged pores which often cause acne (sucks right?!!) You most definitely do not want to skip washing your face because oil build up can clog pores which in turn causes infections and acne. However, the oil on our skin has a lot of advantages which we will highlight but first let’s explore some of the reasons for oily skin.
-Over exposure to UV rays can boost your skin’s oil production – Exposure to sunrays without sunscreen can cause the skin to feel dry so it secrets more oil to soothe the sun burn.
-Hormonal imbalances upset the oil balance in the skin and boosts production of the sebaceous glands. This is why some teenagers often have oily skin. Pregnancy and menopause can also result in oily skin.
-When your mind and body are stressed, the nervous system is triggered causing the production of hormones like adrenaline and cortisol which tend to make the skin oilier.
-Oily Skin, sometimes, is hereditary.
-Seasonal Changes – When the weather shifts our skin texture changes
-Some prescription medication that affects hormones can make the skin oily
